The community of Te Kauwhata and countless friends across New Zealand and beyond are coming together to honour the life, spirit, and remarkable creativity of Josh Tavita Stowers—a visionary entrepreneur, artist, DJ, marketer, and beloved partner, friend, and son. As Founder and CEO of Mixmaster | Tamā, Josh built more than a business; he created a brand rooted in originality and connection, reflecting his belief that “creativity is just connecting things.” Those who knew him understood that this philosophy wasn’t just a quote—it was the very way he moved through the world.
Josh studied Bachelor of Management, Marketing & International Management at The University of Waikato, later completing his National Certificate in Real Estate (Salesperson) (Level 4) through the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand. He held an L4 Real Estate Salesperson license—yet another example of his drive to expand his skills and explore new industries. Those close to him often said that Josh lived with a rare mix of curiosity and purpose, embracing challenges with confidence and joy.

Before creating Mixmaster | Tamā, Josh carved out a dynamic path across several creative and lifestyle-focused fields. He was a Resident DJ at George FM, known for sets that lifted crowds and created unforgettable nights. His talent and charisma also led him to work as a Vice Party DJ and Social Host, a role that allowed his personality and energy to shine. In the world of marketing, Josh contributed his insight and creativity as a Marketing Manager at Moneyshot T Shirts, blending branding with cultural awareness in ways that resonated with younger audiences.
His adventurous spirit reached even further. Josh once served as a Snowboard Instructor SR at Heavenly Mountain, embracing the alpine lifestyle with enthusiasm and teaching others with patience and joy. Whether on the slopes, behind a DJ booth, or building something new from the ground up, Josh approached life with a passion that inspired everyone around him.
Originally from Auckland, Josh had deep ties across many communities, from Waikato to the wider creative scene of Aotearoa. He was proudly engaged to Kiri Marshall, and together they shared a partnership filled with love, laughter, mutual support, and big dreams for the future. Friends say that Josh and Kiri brought out the very best in each other, and that their connection was admired by all who witnessed it.
As the community prepares to celebrate Josh’s life, his loved ones have expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support, strength, and kindness offered by so many. During a time that feels enormously difficult, the outpouring of love has served as a reminder of the profound impact Josh made on countless lives.
Visiting times have been arranged for those who wish to spend quiet moments reflecting, sharing memories, or simply being present in the space where Josh now rests. He is at Simply Funerals, 449 Te Rapa Road, Hamilton, where friends, aiga, and whānau are welcome on Tuesday, November 11th and Wednesday, November 12th, from 9am to 5pm.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, November 14th at 2pm at the Hamilton Old Boys Rugby Club, located at the corner of Richmond Street and Willoughby Street in Whitiora, Hamilton. The gathering is open to everyone who knew Josh, loved him, or was touched by his creativity and generosity.
Organizers say the event will reflect Josh’s spirit fully—with stories, music, laughter, and the kind of warm togetherness he brought to every room. “The beats will be playing and the beer will be poured cold, just how our Hocky would love it,” loved ones shared, inviting all to join in a celebration marked not by sorrow, but by gratitude and joy for the time shared.
For those unable to travel, the celebration will be live-streamed, with details to be announced. Friends and family encourage anyone with questions to reach out directly, and they extend love to all who are holding Josh close in their hearts.
Through every career shift, creative project, late-night DJ set, and community connection, Josh carried a spirit of innovation and kindness that will continue to inspire long into the future. His legacy lives on in the people he uplifted, the art he created, and the energy he brought into every space he entered.
